Framed in the mid-range range, Galaxy A42 will be offered in the 5G version where the 5G communications infrastructure already exists, Samsung also reserving a 4G version for emerging markets where the acquisition cost is higher.

Beyond the 5G mention attached to the product name, the two Galaxy A42 variants will have different specifications and exterior design. Thus, the 5G model is chosen with the Snapdragon 690 chipset and 5000 mAh battery. Instead, the 4G model uses the Snapdragon 765G chipset and could be a slightly slimmer construction, possible by using a smaller capacity battery. In terms of autonomy there should be no differences, Samsung compensating only for the increased power consumption of the 5G modem.
