The Street View feature is one of the most important ones for many Google Earth users. With it they are able to actually see various locations, and not only satellite images. It is ideal for tourists since they can actually take a look at any place. Ever since Google Earth has been released for VR, people have been expecting the Street View feature as well. Now it appears that our dream has come true.
Google updates Google Earth; it brings Street View technology
Whether you want to stroll along the canals of Venice, stand at the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro, or soar through the sky faster than a speeding bullet. There’s no shortage of things to do or ways to explore,” wrote Joanna Kim, Google Earth VR product manager.
The virtual reality app has finally received the Street View technology, but it looks as if it is not complete. While the app allows you to see 360 images of various places, you can’t travel the way you usually can in Street View. If you want to look a bit further you will need to go back and manually select that area, instead of traveling there normally. However, it is very likely that this is just the start and Google will come with some tweaks that will allow users to get the full experience. Until then you can take a look at this version and see what it has to offer.
If you want to try out the new Street View feature, you can experience it on virtual reality headsets like Oculus Rift and HTC Vive. However, even if you do not own those headsets, there is another way to test this function. You can download the Street View app for Cardboard and Daydream.
