OnePlus Nord: everything we know about the new phone before launch

0

OnePlus Nord will be officially unveiled tomorrow, July 21, in an event that will be broadcast live in augmented reality. The new mid-range device from OnePlus promises to offer a premium user experience, at a significantly lower price than the OnePlus 8 models, without making (too) big compromises. However, the Chinese manufacturer failed to keep all the details about the phone secret, even offering many official details about OnePlus Nord. Here’s what we know about the phone right now, before the official event.

OnePlus Nord comes with a mid-range 5G processor

In the case of the processor of the new OnePlus Nord model, there was not even a need for an announcement from the manufacturer. Qualcomm was the source of the information just a few weeks ago. The American company boasted that the new OnePlus smartphone includes a Snapdragon 765G chipset, a higher average model with 5G. This is the processor that has been the basis of many premium mid-range phones lately, such as the LG Velvet.

In fact, it is rumored that the next Google Pixel 5 model will use this processor, to the detriment of a Snapdragon 865. The reason could be the high production costs of the Snapdragon 800 series processor.

In addition to this processor, OnePlus could offer up to 12 GB of RAM on its new mid-range phone. Thus, from this point of view, the Nord model could be as well equipped as any other top smartphone on the market. Very few models include a 16 GB RAM option.

90 Hz screen, just like last year’s top models

OnePlus was one of the first companies to bring high refresh rate screens to the mainstream with the OnePlus 7 Pro. Now, a year later, the lower-priced OnePlus Nord, a mid-range model, could offer a screen with similar performance.

This model will benefit from an OLED screen with a diagonal of 6.5 ”, will have straight edges, not curved, and a Full HD + resolution. For a shorter response time, the touch surface of the screen will have a frequency of 180 Hz, ie the touches will be read 180 times per second.

OnePlus Nord will be equipped with many cameras

The OnePlus manufacturer announced over the weekend details about the cameras of the new OnePlus Nord. The phone will be equipped with a 4-camera system on the back. The main sensor will be a Sony IMX586, a model from last year, which proved to be very powerful when used with top processing software. It offers a resolution of 48 megapixels, has optical stabilization (OIS) and a lens with f / 1.75 aperture, for bright frames.

The other three cameras on the back are ultra-wide (8 megapixels), macro (2 megapixels) and depth (5 megapixels). What is missing from this model is a zoom, a camera that manufacturers now offer only on top models.

But this is not all. OnePlus Nord will offer for the first time in the Chinese manufacturer’s device family a double camera on the front. It’s a 32-megapixel main sensor and another 8-megapixel ultra-wide camera for group selfies.

Other information about the phone

OnePlus will not offer a headphone jack on this model. Also, OnePlus Nord will not benefit from water and dust resistance to IP68 standard. However, Carl Pei said in an interview with MKBHD that he should survive without problems when used in the rain, when he pours a glass of water or even if he happens to fall into a puddle.

The 4,115 mAh battery doesn’t look that big in 2020, when many phones will reach 4,500 or even 5,000 mAh, but given that it will have low power consumption due to the Full HD screen and the more modest processor, it could offer at least one day of use with the screen at 90 Hz. Of course, OnePlus also integrates an optical fingerprint sensor into the screen.
