While other Bioware titles featured multiplayer component in the past Anthem is the first game that was built from the ground up with multiplayer in mind.
Prepare to fly
Players will become Freelancers, mercenaries able to explore a new world with the help of the Javelin suits. There are several Javelin suits and each of them packs a different set of abilities. The main mission is to protect the planet from possible threats.
According to the official lore entities called the Shapers used the Anthem of Creation in order to build the world from scratch. The project was supposed to take 9 days but the Shapers disappeared suddenly after 3 days passed. A conflict that involves the tools of creation leads to a volatile environment that is changing continuously.
The games focuses heavily on Player vs. Environment as the Freelancers will receive a constant flow of missions and challenges that will change dynamically as time passes. As the players progress through the story more content will become available in the form of new missions and dangerous challenges.
Players will be able to form groups in order to tackle the content together. The role that each player takes is determined by their Javelin exosuit.
As the players progress through the game they will be able to obtain new gear and weapons that will improve their performance.
Pick your role
The players will be able to pick between four classes. The Ranger is a jack-of-all-trades that can be used in a variety of situations. Colossus is a tank-like type that will be able to withstand a lot of damage. Storm packs abilities that make it similar to a mage class while Interceptor is like a sneaky rogue that focuses on melee.
During a VIP demo those that preordered the game had the chance to play a series of short missions were they fought the Scars, a strange race of monsters.
No PVP for now
This may change in the future but it seems that PvE is the keyword for now.
The game will be released for the PS4, Xbox One and Windows platforms on February 22.
