Windows 10 Mobile OS Will No Longer Be Available

Sadly not enough people are using Windows 10 Mobile or its apps and therefore, HP is pulling production of the handset. The head of the Microsoft Windows division confirmed this by saying that Windows 10 OS is no longer a priority for the company.

A sad end for Windows 10 Mobile

According to Joe Belfiore, corporate vice president of Windows 10 and the one in charge of the “PC-Tablet-Phone” division, the company will continue to release bug fixes and security updates, but will no longer focus on new features and hardware. He posted the message on Twitter along with a sad face.

Windows 10 Mobile was not strong enough to battle with the industry’s giants

It appears as if Microsoft’s device was not strong enough to compete with Apple’s iOS and Google’s Android, with only 1.3% of the US market on Windows phones sales. On comparison, Android devices had a 64% share of sales and iOS a 34 % share.

The problem, according to users, seems to be the lack of apps on Windows Mobile devices. Belfiore declared that Microsoft invested a lot of time and money to convince app developers to get apps onto Windows Mobile, but unfortunately the volume is too low for companies to invest their money.

One of the first smartphones to use Windows 10 Mobile OS was Lumia 550 in 2015. The support status for Windows 10 Mobile OS is set for the 11^th of June 2019, which is exactly 19 months. Those who use devices running on this OS need to install the latest update in order to remain supported.

Windows 10 Mobile OS is the successor of Windows Phone 8.1 and it was included in Microsoft’s plan of unifying all Windows platforms across multiple devices.
