Samsung Galaxy S8 vs. Galaxy S8 Active – Newest Differences Between Them

The “Galaxy S” premium family of smartphones has received the first “Active” version for the Galaxy S4. Since them, all adrenaline lovers who live a dangerous life and want to take a flagship with them in their adventures have waited patiently for a new “Active” generation and this year, they have the possibility to buy the Galaxy S8 Active. What’s the difference between the normal Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Active?

First of all, we must mention that in terms of hardware, these two devices are almost identical. They have in common a 5.8-inch Super AMOLED always on display supporting a resolution of 1440 x 2960 pixels; a Qualcomm MSM8998 Snapdragon 835 chipset powered by an octa-core (4×2.35 GHz Kryo & 4×1.9 GHz Kryo) processor backed by an Adreno 540 GPU and 4GB of RAM; 64GB of internal storage (expandable); a rear camera with a resolution of 12MP (OIS, LED flash, phase detection autofocus) and a front camera of 8MP; wireless charging; a 3.5mm headphone jack and IP68 water and dust resistance.

Differences

The biggest difference between them is the external design. While the Galaxy S8 used the same glass back with a slender metal frame, likewise the previous two models, the Active version is rugged and has big bumpers on the corners, for extra protection in case of drops. Therefore, their dimensions are totally different, as the Galaxy S8 measures 148.9×68.1×8 mm and weights 155 grams, the Active measures151.89×74.93×9.91 mm and it’s over 50 grams heavier.

Also, the Active has a flat screen which eliminates accidental palm touches and it’s shatter-resistant. In addition, there’s another advantage for the Active’s owners, as they get a bigger battery (4000mAh vs 3000mAh), which will last much longer and will allow them to take a lot of photos or record videos while riding their bikes, surfing, or climbing mountains.

    I have the Galaxy S-6 Active and it has been the best phone I have ever had! I have dropped it a number of times and it still looks and works like brand new. I can’t wait for my wife’s S-3 to finaly break so I can give it to her and get the S-8 Active!
