Nokia 8.1 Receives a Security Patch as the Update Plan is Refreshed

0

Nokia 8.1 was recently released but the January security patch is already available for the device.  Indian users have observed that a small patch, measuring only 67MB, can be downloaded and the official description mentions that it is merely a security update.

The Nokia 8.1 may not be as revolutionary as the Nokia 8 but it manages to be a solid choice for the mid-range users.

Many Nokia 8 users believed that the new smartphone is a sequel to the successful flagship device that was released in 2017. HMD Global is currently making devices under the Nokia brand and the addition of a .1 to the name of a device will usually hint that we are looking at a direct sequel. Sadly, this is not the case here. The Nokia 8 had a top-tier processor, a high-quality QHD screen and a waterproof design; none of these elements are encountered in the Nokia 8.1.

The update plan for the entire range of Nokia devices was also updated. HMD Global promised right of the bat that its devices will receive a constant stream of important updates for as long as possible. The company claims that each device will receive all the major updates that are released over a period of two years and security updates will continue to arrive after this period expires.

According to official statements the company plans to bring Android Pie on a large variety of devices that are currently on sale. An elaborate and rather entertaining document that explains the entire update program has been published by the company on its official website. The document goes through each step of the process, from gaining access to the factory version of Android Pie and up to the final step of the release.

If HMD manages to deliver the update in a timely manner it could join a select club of manufacturers which don’t contribute to the fragmentation of the Android ecosystem.
