Microsoft Update on Windows 10 Build 17763.404 Comes With New Features

Microsoft has released a cumulative update for the Windows 10 October 2018 Update (version 1809). Even if we are just a week away from Patch Tuesday, the company decided to release this optional update for Windows 10. The update is KB4490481 with the build number 17763.404.

From Where You Can Download It?

The update won’t install automatically if you don’t download it or you don’t enter the phone Settings. For that just hit Settings- Update & Security- Windows Update- Check for updates, and you are good to go! Also, you can visit http://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Search and type the update’s number: KB4490481.

What Kind of Issues to be Aware of We Have?

  • After the installation of the update, some applications like Internet Explorer 11, or others that use WININET.DLL could give you some problems because two or more people use the same user account for login sessions. So the solution is that two people have individual user accounts for login on the Windows Server Machine. Also, disable multiple RDP sessions for a single user account.
  • Another issue that can occur after this update install is MSXML6 that causes applications to stop responding. Microsoft knows about this issue and is working at it. An update will come soon.
  • Custom URI Schemes for Application Protocol handlers may not open the corresponding application for trusted sites on Internet Explorer. For resolving this problem go to Tools-Internet Option- Security. Then select Local Intranet – Enable Protected Mode. Select the Trusted sites, then Enable Protected Mode- OK. Restart the browser for the changes to apply.
  • In case you have enabled per front end-user-defined characters (EUDC), your system will stop working, and you’ll see a blue screen at startup. The solution is to not enable per front EUDC. Or you can edit the registry to mitigate this issue. A future update will come for the problem.

Finally, before you install the latest cumulative update for the Windows 10 build 17763.404, Microsoft recommends you to install the latest servicing stack update for your operating system.
