The final months of Flash Player are here
The legendary multimedia platform has started to suffer critics for quite some time now and Google was the main responsible by reducing Chrome’s OS dependency on Flash Player. Slowly but steady, the platform will be removed and it will allow modern protocols and lighter packaging media to take its place. The Flash Player will be removed forever at the end of 2020 and open standards such as HTML5, WebGL and WebAssembly will take its place, offering more functionalities and features.
Adobe Flash Player is labeled as Shockwave Flash with Internet Explorer and Firefox and it was released for the first time 21 years ago in 1996.
Many people have started to criticize the platform due to its battery consumption when used on smartphones, security issues, the fact that it is a closed platform and its performance. Apple has removed Flash Player and has replaced it with its iOS operating system. The announcement was made after consulting with Facebook, Apple, Google, Microsoft and Mozilla.
