Bitdefender Duel: Free vs Paid – What’s Best To Choose?

0

Bitdefender is one of the most popular antivirus solutions that are currently available. The beloved company is able to consistently come on top in independent tests like the AV Comparatives and the AV Test.

Windows users can choose between four different versions of Bitdefeder. For the scope of this article we decided to compare the popular Antivirus Free and the paid Antivirus Plus versions.

The free solution has been available for a while but Bitdefender doesn’t seem to be interested in promoting the product at a similar scale to the one used for the paid alternatives.

Costs

Bitdefender Antivirus Plus is available at a standard price of $59.99 but discounts are run often and they are quite consistent. As you may have guessed the Bitdefender Free Edition can be downloaded and used without buying a license.

Compatibility

Both programs can run on a variety of systems, including some that have modest specifications. The minimum requirements are:

  • Intel Duo 2 GHz processor
  • 1, 5 GB of RAM
  • 800 MB of free hard disk space and at least 2GB of free space

A compatible browser

Both versions have an online installer that can be downloaded from the official website. During the installation process they will attempt to install a root certificate and you will have to close the browser in order to finish the installation.

Feature comparisons

Both solutions offer a robust package of features that will keep your system safe and secure. Among them we can count protection against malware, phishing, and web based attacks.

Bitdefender Antivirus Plus packs a selection of additional features. A built-in password manager will help you keep your passwords handy and protected at the same time.  Additional ransomware protection and an active scanner that analyzes URLs displayed during searches will keep potential threats away from the system. A dedicated online baking platform will allow users to securely pay for goods with their cards.

Conclusions:

The free solution is great for the average users that want to browse the internet without risks. Advanced users and those that would benefit from the additional function should buy the paid version.
