Android Oreo Available to Download and Install

Google has finally released Android 8.0 Oreo OS and everyone is excited to get the update since its specs are very promising. The American company has been teasing Android fans with a new operating system since the I/O/2017 and now, not only do we know that Android O stands from Android Oreo, but we can also download it.

Unfortunately, so far only a handful of phones can download the new update.

The release date

Similar to last year’s date of release for Android 7.0, Nougat, Google has announced the new OS during summertime. This year the company set the date for August 21^st, the same day of the total solar eclipse taking place in the U.S. This almost seems as a message, suggesting that the new OS is very special.

Android Oreo: improved version of Android 7.0

The new OS operates faster and has new features to offer users such as improved notifications, picture-in-picture or Autofill APIs.

Google has also though about improving the notification channels. With Android 8.0, users can snooze individual notifications for 15, 30 minutes or an hour. A new addition is the dots, visual indicators on app icons, created to let users know if they have any waiting notifications.  The icons are also adaptive, meaning that users can change their shapes.

So far Pixel, Pixel XL and Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P and a couple of other models support the Android 8.0. For those who own other smartphone models or brands, the beta version is available online until the official version becomes available.
