Here’s all you need to know about a problem with Flash Player and Comcast reported by a user.
The issue regarding Comcast and Flash Player
It seems that recently Xfinity/Comcast made a change to their PC app which allows users to use their portal on a computer to watch and manage TV and recordings. A user reported that this seems to be broken when getting to the point during or after the app is ‘checking for Devices’ and possible accessing Flash Player.
During troubleshooting, it seems that all browsers have the same problem with Flash Player. Edge, Chrome, Firefox, IE Explorer, they all had the same issue. Everytime the user tried to use the Comcast app there would pop up the same error saying that there is something wrong with Flash Player. This happened only with the Comcast app. The user tested the app with all the browsers and when available with both 32 and 64-bit versions.
The issue turned out to not be related to the hardware, but instead, it seemed to be with the Comcast app and the fact that it changed a few weeks ago. Flash Player worked with all other apps, but Comcast’s PC app.
The user concluded that there was something wrong with the system’s configuration that doesn’t like the combination of Xfinity/Comcast and Flash Player.
Solving the problem
The user managed to fix this incompatibility issue while using Chrome. It seems that there are two options in Chrome, and either one can be responsible for the TV problem. Here’s what you need to do to fix this issue:
- You have to open Chrome Settings.
- Scroll down and open Advanced from the bottom of the page.
- In the first block of options, you will see Content Settings, and you have to open this option.
- In the first block of options, there is also the Flash selection which allows sites to run Flash.
You have to unblock these two options, and the problem is fixed.
